The technology package adds tech, convenience, and safety features to your 2023 Tacoma.

The 2023 Toyota Tacoma is a popular model known for its durability and off-roading abilities.

Each model comes with plenty of helpful and enjoyable features, but there’s an option to elevate your experience even more with an added technology package. Continue reading to learn all about the choices available to you as a new Tacoma owner and if it’s worth the expense.

What Is the Technology Package?

When you get a 2023 Toyota Tacoma, you may have the option to find one with the technology package. The technology package is an optional add-on. It typically includes additional high-end technology, convenience, and safety features.

It’s basically a collection of advanced tech capabilities that are marketed and grouped together for purchase.

Opting into a technology package may be a good fit for you if you’re not happy with the base trim level of your Tacoma and are looking for more options than what comes with the standard model.

What’s Included

There are several options when it comes to technology packages. Let’s go over the different combinations and key features available with your purchase:

Technology Package (1)

This package includes Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA).

The Blind Spot Monitor is a sensor that monitors other vehicles on the road. The indicator lights are located on the mirrors and will illuminate when a vehicle is in your truck’s blind spot.

Rear Cross-Traffic Alert will help you easily back out of a parking space by letting you know when another vehicle is approaching, even when you can’t see it.

Technology Package (2)

The following technology package has the same Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert system as the first, along with Parking Sonar.

This is another sensor added to the front and back of the vehicle to assist with parking and avoiding accidents. It will warn you when something is too close to your truck.

Technology Package with Options (1)

In addition to the features included in the first two packages, you can also get LED headlights and fog lights with this package. Specifically, it includes LED headlights with LED DRL and black-bezel LED fog lights.

Along with meeting road regulations and helping you see clearly at night, LED headlights eliminate glare and save energy. LED DRLs produce a bright, white light that focuses on helping other drivers see you better on the road instead of just lighting the way in front of you.

If you come across rain, dust, or any other unexpected weather condition on the road, LED fog lights can help you see clearly and enhance your safety while driving.

Technology Package with Options (2)

This package is ideal if you’re looking for all the helpful safety enhancements, plus a tonneau cover.

This package comes with the Parking Sonar, Blind Spot Monitor, and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA). You’ll also get a tonneau cover to go over your truck bed, which is perfect for travel, camping trips, or carrying other cargo that needs protection from the elements.

Technology Package with Options (3)

With this package, you can get everything from the other packages. It includes the Parking Sonar, Blind Spot Monitor, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, LED headlights and fog lights, and Tonneau Cover.

It’s the perfect way to take advantage of increased safety and convenience capabilities for your new Tacoma without picking and choosing between features.

Keep in mind, though, that not all of these packages are available with all trim levels. Availability will depend on which model you choose, which we will discuss in the next section.

Is It Worth It?

The technology package for a new Toyota Tacoma may or may not be worth it, depending on your situation.

For instance, if you don’t see yourself transporting any cargo with the Tonneau cover, spending the extra money on that package may be unnecessary. On the other hand, if you feel some of the advanced safety features are necessary and would be more convenient, it may be worth the splurge.

I’ve driven several Tacomas equipped with technology packages over the past few months. I’ve found the Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert helpful and would miss it if those features weren’t equipped on a Tacoma.

The Rear Cross-Traffic Alert is particularly useful for backing out of crowded parking lots. In addition, I found that the blind spot monitor helped me with safe lane changes on the busy highways in Phoenix, Arizona.

Technology Packages From Other Manufacturers

If your considering other trucks similar to the Tacoma, it is helpful to know what technology package they offer as well. Here are some tech packages offered by other manufacturers on similar trucks:

2024 Ford Maverick with Ford Co-Pilot 360 Package

This package comes with a blind spot information system and cross-traffic alert, similar to the Tacoma. It also has a lane-keeping system at a total price of $650.

2023 Chevy Colorado Technology Package

The Chevy Colorado technology package is estimated to cost $950. It has adaptive cruise control, tailgate keyed cylinder lock, rear pedestrian alert, and HD surround vision.

2023 Nissan Frontier Technology Package (Pro)

Nissan Frontier owners can opt for this package to get intelligent cruise control, rear automatic braking, and high beam assist. It costs an additional $990.
