Does the Toyota Tacoma Have a Heated Steering Wheel?

Finally, a heated steering wheel is available on the Tacoma beginning in 2024, but is it worth the extra money?

Key Points:

  • The 2024 Tacoma is the first to offer a heated steering wheel.
  • A heated steering wheel is available on all grades except SR.
  • Consider the pros and cons of a heated steering wheel to determine if it's worth the upgrade.

If you live up North with extended winters and hard snow days, you might think having a heated steering wheel is non-negotiable.

I understand that, especially after shoveling your driveway and brushing the snow off your windows. Having a heated interior is a big perk for some snowbirds

I will talk about the Toyota Tacoma and whether or not a heating steering wheel is an option. Then I’ll discuss the pros and cons and if I think it’s worth paying extra for a heated steering wheel.

Availability

The Toyota Tacoma is an excellent truck, but does it have the heated steering wheel you want?

Finally, the 2024 Tacoma is the first to have a heated steering wheel. It is available with the following grades:

  • SR5 (optional)
  • TRD Sport (optional)
  • TRD Off-Road (optional)
  • Limited (included)
  • Trailhunter (included)
  • TRD Pro (included)

This means that every grade except for SR (the lowest grade) can be equipped with one.

Unfortunately, if you’re looking for a 2023 or older Tacoma, it will not have a heated steering wheel.

Keep in mind that there are some after-market heated steering wheel, but there aren’t many great options and they could be unsafe. We don’t recommend any aftermarket options.

Pros and Cons

The biggest con to this whole thing is that Toyota hasn’t offered heated steering wheels until 2024, but it’s great that they’ve finally made it available.

Maybe going over some pros and cons will help you decide what’s best for you.

Benefits of a heated steering wheel:

  • Warms your hands on the coldest days.
  • Allows you to avoid wearing gloves. Gloves could potentially cause grip issues on a typical steering wheel.

Disadvantages of a heated steering wheel:

  • A heated steering wheel probably isn’t useful in warm climates.
  • It can be an expensive add-on.
  • The temperature of a heated steering wheel could cause burns in some people.
    • Those with sensitive skin
    • Infants and young children, as well as the elderly

Is It Worth It?

Ultimately, it’s up to you to decide if a heated steering wheel and the cost associated with it is worth it to you. It doesn’t seem like a worthwhile investment for something you might not use all year round.

There just aren’t great after-market parts either to make it worth investing in them. It might just be easier to throw on a warm pair of gloves rather than worry about a heated steering wheel.

Conclusion

After I’ve gone over all the disadvantages and benefits of having a heated steering wheel, what are your thoughts?

Of course, gloves are an option to wear in the cold, but you still have to be careful with that. Make sure they fit tightly on your hands and have a good grip.
