Exploring Features of the ‘24 Tacoma TRD Off-Road Premium Package
The Tacoma TRD Off-Road Premium Package adds many high-tech and comfort features to the truck, but the cost may place it beyond many drivers’ reach.
Key Points:
- TRD Off-Road Premium Package is the highest option for the 2024 Tacoma, above the Upgrade Package.
- This package starts at $8,800, while the Upgrade Package only costs $4,640.
- Premium Package features differ depending on whether the truck has a 5- or 6-foot bed.
- The Premium Package contains features that are not part of the Upgrade Package, such as heated and ventilated seating and a 14-inch multimedia display.
- Tacoma trucks can’t be built with the chosen package, leaving shoppers subject to what’s available at the dealership.
Here at Tacoma Explorer, the team is a big fan of the 2024 TRD Off-Road, but we weren’t sure whether the Premium Package was worth the extra money. Therefore, we needed to do a deeper dive.
After many hours online and at the dealership, we can finally share what we’ve learned about the TRD Off-Road Premium Package for the 2024 Toyota Tacoma.
Get my candid thoughts on the pricing of this package and discover whether it’s worth it in this article. I also discuss what’s in the package and how it compares to the “Upgrade” Package.
What’s Included
The following features are added to the TRD Off-Road Premium Package.
- 8-way power-adjustable SofTex®-trimmed heated and ventilated front seats
- Heated leather-trimmed steering wheel
- 14-inch multimedia display
- Multi-Terrain Monitor (MTM)
- Qi wireless device charging
- JBL® Premium Audio with JBL® FLEX portable speaker
- Digital rearview mirror
- Moonroof
- Dual-zone automatic climate control
- Pre-wired auxiliary switches
- AC power inverter
- Towing Technology Package including Integrated Trailer Brake Controller (ITBC)
- Power horizontal rear window
- Power open/close tailgate
With a 6-foot bed, the package adds a 1200W/120V AC power supply, along with front and rear parking assistance with automatic braking. However, the 5-foot bed package doesn’t have the safety features and is downgraded to a 400-watt power supply.

Pricing and Availability
The TRD Off-Road Premium Package starts at $8,800. You may also see it paired with mudguards (+$60) and/or a stabilizer disconnect mechanism (+$1,230).
Sadly, you don’t have the option to equip or remove a package at the dealership. It would be best if you spoke with the dealership to see what allocations are available and what they have on-site. Either the trucks have the packages or they don’t. There’s no way to build it to your specifications.
You may have to give up other things you want to get the package, such as a particular color. You can also speak with several dealerships to see if another has better options for you.
Jonathan (our content director) worked with Right Toyota in Scottsdale, Arizona, to buy a truck. They had lots of Tacomas coming in, with a decent number of TRD Off-Roads.
Only a few were available with the Premium package, while the Upgrade package or no packages were more readily available. Unfortunately, most TRD Off-Roads with the Premium package were already sold, but there were several worthy options to choose from.
Results depend on your location, so you need to call around and see what’s available.
“Premium” vs. “Upgrade” Packages
The highest-level package available with the TRD Off-Road is the Premium Package. A step down from that option (at about 50% off) is the Upgrade Package. It costs $4,640.
The following features are included with the Upgrade Package.
- 8-way power-adjustable front seats
- Heated leather-trimmed steering wheel
- Qi wireless device charging
- JBL®Premium Audio with JBL® FLEX portable speaker
- Integrated Trailer Brake Controller (ITBC)
- Front and Rear Parking Assist with Automatic Braking
- AC power inverter
- Pre-wired auxiliary switches
- Power horizontal rear window
That leaves you without these features that would have been a part of the Premium Package.
- Heated and ventilated front SofTex seats
- 14-inch multimedia display
- Multi-Terrain Monitor (MTM)
- Moonroof
- Digital rearview mirror
- Towing Technology Package
- Power open/close tailgate
Remember that choosing the Premium Package involves spending another $4,160 more than the Upgrade Package would have cost.
At this point, it would be a matter of deciding what features are important to you and if you are willing to pay for them. You can choose either package or go with none at all.

Is It Worth It?
In my opinion, the best parts of the Premium Package include:
- 14-inch multimedia display
- Multi-Terrain Monitor (MTM)
- Heated and ventilated front SofTex seats
- Premium JBL sound system with a portable FLEX speaker
- Towing upgrades
These are the most valuable features of the Package, in my opinion. These are going to be used most often.
The sound system is something that many people like to have. Luckily this comes with the Upgrade package, so if that’s all you are going to get it for, you can save a lot of money.
Unfortunately, the large screen is only available with the Premium package, though, so to take advantage of this major tech upgrade you’ll have to make the upgrade to Premium.
The full towing package and Multi-terrain monitor only come with the Premium Package. If you would take advantage of these, you may need to bite the bullet on the cost.
This decision should never be taken lightly. Adding the Premium Package makes your $40,000 truck into a $50k or $60k truck. You have to weigh the options carefully. You may decide that none of the packages are worth the cost and stick to the basics after all.
Remember that you always have the option to add aftermarket modifications later, that could save you some money. With the same amount of cash, you can add a lot to your truck.

Recap
The Premium Package adds a lot of features to the 2023 Tacoma TRD Off-Road, but it’s not always worth the $8,800 price tag.
Each driver values options differently, making it impossible to decide whether it’s a good value across the board. Instead, let us know what you think.
Are you planning to buy your Tacoma with the Premium Package, or will you choose something else?
Guess i will keep 22 Taco SR5 and go a different route. The 24 Taco has crossed the line in cost. For that much money for a loaded one i am close in price to a full size Tundra more everything. Tundra looking better and better and some are now below MSRP.
I bought a 2023 TRD Off Road, Premium with a 6-0 bed. I’m extremely grateful that purchased the premium package and also the 2023 not the 2024. In my opinion the 2024 looks like every other mid sized pickup built. The large front spoiler hangs down so far, it’s just going to get torn off the first rutted dirt road here in Montana. And a $10,000 option? Really?
